Flip book prep

As I've never made a scrapbook becore I did some resesrch into it. The best way that seemed easy enough for a beginner was to cut out 5 triangles, stitch the felt together then use long skewers to weave in and out of the triangles. The more pages the wider the spine. I do want the book to be quite big, A3 size or there abouts for space and for the pop ups to be detailed and bigish.
Once the book has been stitched together I can start to add the pop ups qnd story to bring it to life.

Lets go back to where it began....... with Napoleon. Napoleon was offering a prize of 12000 francs for a way to preserve food for his armies. Thanks to Nicolas Appert- who won- the tin can, for food was born.

1935 canned beer came to the UK, thanks to the invention of planes and the ease of transportation.

The time of change for ideas and societies values since the war, upheaval and then the big rebuild was the 1960's. Licensing laws became more relaxed which meant more supermarkets could start to sell canned alcohol.

1963 the easy-open end was invented by Ernie Fraze, an american. This arrived to the UK in the 1970's. This had a dramatic effect on sales growth for both soft and beer and brought a new level of convenience to the consumer.

The Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher was in power, social attitudes were changing and so were supermarkets, there were more products so there was less shelf space. The can were in a time of right place right time since they were small, could be stacked and displayed in different ways and because of the large surface for designs they were perfect for shelf display.

An evet growing range of products on shelves means more competition,  which means cans have to stand out more than ever.

In the 1990s colour, decoration, shaped cans, undertab printing and many others

All of these meant more excitement and more variation

______________________

The life of a can is forever changing with new designs and technology.

As Steve Jobs said "innovation is what distinguishes the leaders from the followers.
