I have been given a new brief from Ged Haney for "encounter". A short narrative story with a beginning, middle and end. I can interpret the word in which ever way I want and come up with an idea to use in Flash.
I'm not entirely sure if I understand this properly yet, words just seem to float around all jumbled up in my head and cant seem to make sense from them but I will read up on and see if that clears things up. My Tutor said I should look at some books by; Bennette, Grossberg and Morrison (2005)
Fiske J. (1982)
Freeden, Micheal (2005)
The Tutor from the lecture today said that Ideologies naturalise certain social relationships- it makes things seem normal
Mainstream representation tend to naturalise their own versions of the world
Dominant ideologies
Capitalist ideology
Patriarchal ideology
Racist ideology
(These are just some of the main forms of ideology)
Ideologies can conceal the sources of power and give the impression that they are "natural or inevitable

Meanings are always being created in audio-visual practices.
Some meanings tend to be favoured over others
Ideologies are all about naturalizing particular social outcomes.
Ideologies tend to conceal the sources of power and give the impression that they are natural or inevitable.
Where do you place the camera?
What kind of lens do you use?
How do you frame the image?
What is included in the short?
What is excluded from the view?
What height and angle is the camera? etc
How do we read visual information of this kind?
- Semiology means the science of signs
-Signifier: the sign itself
-Signified: the meaning that the sign creates
C.S. Peirce
-Iconic signs: signs that resemble the objects that they signify.
-Indexical signs: signs that connected in some way with the things they signify.
-Symbolic signs: are just conventionally associated with things.
Denotation: what it contains.
Connotation: implications of elements
I got given another brief today, by Rozzi. I have to do a film for the mystreetfilm.com competition which will be due around the time we finish in May.
I was looking at some of the videos that other people had done on the website to see what sort of things they talk about. Some talk about the history and other talk about present issues involving where they live.
Since I've not lived in Leeds for a while and wasn't born here, I will do it about my home town, Blackburn, as I know there is a lot of history around where I lived. Also, I think we have to use After Effects to create it so I got an idea to use acetate. I've used it a few times in the past and I enjoyed working with it so hopefully I should be able to come up with a few ideas involving these elements.
Representation- How it has been made to be seen by symbolizing certain beliefs or cultures.
Some pictures are missing which I'm not happy about. I was using my Galaxy tablet again to take the pictures with some bits are a little shaky where i had to hold it but the movements from the characters i am happy with, specially at the end, I think it plays very smoothly for movements.
I used clingfilm in the middle of the sets to try show some sort of window into each others worlds and it is love at first sight.
The music I found on Youtube but I specifically looked for cello music as i think there is nothing sadder than a cello playing and I thought it would go well with the theme
I have done something like cut out animation before and stencils so I will have an idea of how things should work, and again trying to keep it simple and clear.
